Welcome to the Coyote ContraBand

The happy go lucky Coyote ContraBand is ready to have a howling good time with you! We are a close-knit band -- together for more than 10 years. We play traditional Irish, English, Scottish, American old-time, New England, and French-Canadian tunes for contra dances and square dances.  We spice it up a bit for experienced dancers by playing Scandinavian and other European dances such as polkas, hambos, schottisches, tangos, and horas, and we even slip in some tunes composed by our members.

We play regularly for the 1st-Friday monthly contra-dances at the Clunie Clubhouse in McKinley Park - Alhambra and F Streets - Sacramento, CA, beginning at 7:30pm. All dances are taught and called; beginners are welcomed. Wear cool clothes and comfy shoes and come and give it a try; if you can walk - you can contra-dance.  CAUTION! your face may hurt the next day from smiling too much.

The coyotes love to play for parties, weddings, and at schools.  We have traveled as far east as Reno, as far south as Monterey, and as far west as Marin.  We get your feet moving with from 2 to 8 musicians, and our skilled caller can teach dances for beginners and  kids from 8 to 80.  We are known for our harmony singing, and our willingness to dress up in costumes, either serious or whacky!
